I’m an anti-power, and control guy. If you spend the money to be a Division 1A team and are sanctioned as such, you should have an opportunity to compete for the national championship.
If you are allowed to compete, and five other conferences are not, than you can’t, and should not be able to use the “National” next to your championship.
You can say “BCS Championship”, that’s fine, but it’s NOT a BCS “National” Championship. If Utah couldn’t compete a couple of years ago, and if Boise runs the table this year, if they are they are closed off, if they don’t have the same opportunity that Butler had in basketball, than it’s not in my mind a “National” Championship.
Boise has every right to be in the preseason Top 5 or even Top 4 in every preseason poll. Their schedule early can be an attention getter, and it gives them a chance to do some damage.
Mr. Hancock is saying that “we” threw them a bone, translation, is we gave them a record $24 million to the Non-BCS schools, which is more than we’ve done in the last 12 years.
The only reason that happened is because the coalition lead by
President Scott Cowan (then of Tulane) was the Chairman of the College Presidents Coalition for Reform. He got congress involved and forced the hands of the BCS to add another bowl game, a fifth game, at the site of the Fiesta Bowl, Rose, etc.
I just wish the schools like Boise, could have a chance to truly pursue a “national” title.
